Found in my parents’ attic, circa 1985, cartoon submission to Mt. Lebanon Magazine. We’ll start with my first rejection letter, an important rite of passage for any writer, from this Pennsylvania hometown magazine editor:
Here’s my original query. I’m assuming I did not send this version, but that this was my final edit. “My cartoon is titled Sheep Follies.” Best/worst line: “Because I am merely 11 years old, it is of no concern to me wether I am paid or not.”
Sheep Follies, Sincerely and hopeful. My first query—and rejection—letters.
