The tragedy in New Orleans has been in and out of the Indian papers. Of interest is that India donated $5 million and Bangladesh $1 million to U.S. relief efforts, a gesture that makes me think of El Salvador sending troops to Iraq, just trying to stay on Uncle Sam’s good side. But perhaps that’s not fair; whether symbolic or not, that’s a lot of rupees. In any case, today’s headlines show the Indian media’s real priorities: on the front page of BOTH English language newspapers are articles about Andre Agassi’s family life (“Tinies Before Tennis!â€).
