Since we orginally opted for a domestic flight from Delhi to Calcutta (back in August), our current westbound journey by rail and bus completes our bragging rights to a subcontinental overland crossing — from Pakistan’s Hunza Valley to the Bhutan border.
My side-obsession with map-making has found company in my wife’s roots, as I just learned that her grandfather, her “Dado,” was a cartogographer. Our reason for coming to Pakistan and India was based entirely around my in-laws’ unique connections to this part of the world, but Dado’s maps are a whole new branch of the story and I can’t wait to learn more.
